Note: The following capsule history of Buena Park City Council elections and appointments from 1953 through 1982 was compiled by Jim Drummond from back issues of the Buena Park News and published in that paper with updates for each election several times in the 1970s. 1953: Voters approve cityhood and elect Grady Travis, Garner McComber, Tom Stelzner, Calvin Culp and Joe Webber.
1954: Travis, McComber, Stelzner and Webber win re-election. Wayne Hart wins election. Culp is defeated.
1956: Before voting William Peak is appointed to replace Stelzner. Peek, Paul Wishek and Dennis Murphy win election. Travis and Hart don't run. After voting Travis is appointed to replace Webber and Fred Harber is appointed to replace Wishek.
1958: John Stecko and Bill Effinger win election. Travis is defeated. McComber doesn't run.
1959: Fred Shea is appointed to replace Peak. Robert Thompson and Fred DeCamp replace Stecko and Effinger in recall.
1960: John McShane, Harold Bousman and John Parise win election. Harber and Shea are defeated. Murphy doesn't run.
1961: Richard Crenshaw and Wishek replace Parise and DeCamp in recall.
1962: Thompson and Wishek win re-election.
1964: Bousman and Crenshaw win re-election. Jesse Davis wins election. McShane is defeated.
1965: Gordon Wing is appointed to replace Crenshaw.
1966: Thompson wins re-election. Anthony Fonte wins election. Wishek doesn't run.
1968: Bousman and Davis win re-election. Wing wins election.
1970: Fonte wins re-election. Ralph Hines wins election. Thompson is defeated.
1971: Merwin French is appointed to replace Wing.
1972: Bousman and Davis win re-election. Stan Meyer wins election. French is defeated.
1974: Hines wins re-election. Don Griffin wins election. Fonte doesn't run.
1976: Davis and Meyer win re-election. Jim Jarrell wins election. Bousman doesn't run. Later, Bousman is appointed to replace Hines until Lou Gass wins election.
1978: Griffin wins re-election. Lester Reese wins election. Gass is defeated.
1980: Davis and Jarrell win re-election. Ken Jones wins election. Meyer doesn't run.
1982: Griffin and Reese win re-election.
